In this video, Sri Chinmoy first answers questions regarding the receptivity of the West to meditation practices and his own early training. Then he explains concentration, the one-pointed effort towards our goal, when seen side by side with meditation and contemplation. Finally he comments the importance of imagination in our meditation practice, and shares an actual imagination exercise that we can do.
“The spiritual ladder has three steps. The first is concentration, the second is meditation and the third is contemplation. … if we want to acquire power through our concentration, then the object has to be as small as possible……so that like a rocket, like an arrow, we can enter into our goal. This is concentration.”

Many thanks for making these fascinating videos available of the very dear Shri Chinmoy .I was very fortunate to have seen the great Saint , in New York as well as on many occasions throughout the years in the U.K..I once won a tape recording of his Flute playing , at an event organised bt His Devotees . There was a contest involving blowing up ballooons which were distruibuted to all .The winner was he who had the latrgest ballon in the end . I felt sure I would win , and I did ! I’d been used to certain types of yogic breathing .So that was great , the Flute Music so powerful , and haunting .It was a real Prasad .
On another occasion , Shri Chinmoy gave out oranges , after a n appearance at a University – Cambridge , I think , or Oxford .I ended up getting more than one , as some folks around me didn’t eat theirs .It was a blissful time when all peeled their oranges , in silence .tThe fragrant zezst of the skin filledd the air , and all enjoyed .It was a quintessential Chinmoy Moment , a real experience .After , I took oranges home for my Mother , but she declined it , mysteriously .Ma , it’s great Prasad ! I protested ..But no . So I had more than my fair share of the Oranges ! And , lo and behold , a year or two later I started my own little livelihood , with a three – wheeler bike offering fresh-squeezed orange juice . Tha t juice was absolutely the BEST – liquid SUNLIGHT . Thanks , beloved son of the one .
Blessings , good wishes and love to all , Christmas 2014 , From Sarathi .
